2018 - Wisconsin (USA)

Place: Health Care

Season: Unknown

Source: Water System

Considers biofilms: No

Treatment used prior to the outbreak: A silver-copper ionization system was used, without supplemental chlorination. There was mixing between clean water and water from pipes that were not routinely flushed. The ionization system was adapted to a new configuration and water contamination may have occurred.

Actions in response to the outbreak: Showering activities were restricted to avoid more infections. Hyperchlorination was used. The ionization system was set up to the old configuration. Showerheads and faucets filters were installed. Old water heaters were removed, as were their associated dead end water pipes
